CHENNAI: Tata Consultancy Services retained its top position as the best IT employer in India, while software major Wipro figured nowhere among the ‘Top 20’ list, as per a survey by industry analysts.
While HCL Infosystems, iGate, RMSI and Synechron occupied the next four slots after TCS, Infosys slipped four places to the eight position, according to an annual survey done by Cybermedia’s flagship publication Dataquest in collaboration with IDC India.
The seventh annual Dataquest-IDC survey was participated by 2,844 software, hardware and marketing professionals from 33 IT companies, totally employing 3,04,834 people in seven cities.
The rating of employers was done upon the basis of employee satisfaction and HR scores.
IBM was rated the sixth best employer, followed by Capgemini, Infosys, Tavant Technologies and Sun Microsystems.
According to the survey, TCS, with a large workforce based in foreign shores, followed innovative HR practices and maintained ethos across geographies to achieve consistency in workforce.
The employees of HCL Infosystems were found to be satisfied with the growth opportunities, job security and relationship with peers in the company.
According to Pradeep Gupta, publisher of Cybermedia, multinational employers IBM, Capgemini, Sun Microsystems and CSC have mastered the art of managing Indian employees to rank among the Top 20 best IT employers in the country.
“Others, especially many India-based IT employers, need to balance aggressive recruitment with the warmth and personal touch…to retain people as they ramp up headcount”.

A few years back when I was working in TCS Business Consultancy group, all the Top performers were getting victimized , misutilized (given low quality projects deliberately) and even personally harassed quite often and ended up leaving TCS, while all the non performing staff who used to mess up and mis-deliver client projects, but were very good in NEGATIVE internal TCS politics and groupism, used to get high importance/recognition internally. Was a very disillusioning first hand experience..Typically, either you had great client performance references but were a bad internal cultural fit in TCS, or you were a great fit internally in the negative political TCS culture but with extremely bad client references!!
All the good professionals (new people) who tried to take initiatives for improvement, were harassed and even abused by the highly predominant low quality non-performing older staff in TCS, and left the firm after demotivation on this environment. As a result, all the low quality and less educated people who stuck to TCS past 10-20 years are probably occupying most of senior positions nowadays, while all the good people left due to demotivation and harassment etc. This was a major major failure on part of the organization’s culture. There are hundreds or thousands of ex TCS staff who agree to this sad fact about the company’s negative work environment past years..

I agree. TCS really sucks ! It is one of the worst organizations that I have worked for. I was really surprised to find out that in certain departments, no nepotism policies are implemented and employees are harassed. Its such a shame for a Tata company.

Onething i wanted to say clearly is its not the company which sucks,its the im-mature people who earn bad name for the organization.Most of the services companies are bad ,very bad ,infact worst. Very bad client dealing,bad estimations,im-mature managers.God save the IT

Why does TCS suck big time?
1) Working 14 hours daily for 6 days a week with NO casual leaves allowed will suck the life out of you.
For design review my boss just passed it off. He didnt even bother to look at it. When we all started on the design we came accross several design errors. For me it was even harder as I was not given any training. I not only had to learn what was possible to be done and how to do it, but also whether the current design will do it and what would be the best possible way.
2) Being forced to work even after your exhaustion point and given ONLY negative feedback and low pay will make you feel like a pimp. I felt it! I was forced to do something for money. The pay sucks (and they simply cut more for their profits. It pays the lowest among all companies). I was treated like a dog recieving dozes of criticism and blame from my supervisor. I went home and slept. Woke and came to work.
3) Lose contact with all your friends. No time for family members. My project attrition rate was 45%. They either got release or resigned.
4) I experienced heart burns and severe headaches. And I was a person who had never experienced headache in my entire 23 years. My heart was in a fit condition in college as I played sports daily and did swimming/gym alternatively.
5) My team also wanted to resign as soon as possible but there was no time to make a resume and hunt for jobs.
6) We worked in 2-3 projects all at once.
7) When I tried talking about my problems to other senior managers they just laughed shamelessly while I spoke. Bloody @#@. This is the attitude you get in TCS.
And I saw dumb assholes also surviving in other projects. TCS will burden you beyond your capacity if they find you are not dumb.
9) After working till 11pm (even 1am sometimes) initially I used to tell my boss “I worked till so and so time yesterday night so that I could complete this part”. What was that son of bitch’s reply? “I dont care how much time you put in. Its your fault if you had to put in so much time. If you were a good worker you could have completed the entire project before time. Is the project completed?” “no” “Then I dont want to hear these things.”
Slowly slowly I stopped working late because I lost enthusiasm in work completely.
If you are sensible, stay away from this blood sucking company. Believe me it sucks. You’ll end up in chennai because they are opening an office with 20k employee strength (the global strength is more than 1 lakh so you can imaging how much “resources” have to be put in chennai).

One more thing.
The net is restricted. No personal mails (gmail/yahoo) etc. No social networking (orkut/wayne or whatever). Your social network is best off dead. No youtube (or any song sites). Some news sites are also blocked (comes in “politics/opinion”). Several proxy sites are also blocked. Even if you find new ones they will be blocked within 1-2 days. Download of any exe/zip/any audio/video is blocked. Sites like naukri.com are blocked (“jobs”). Forums and discussions of gaming sites are blocked (“games”) let alone gaming sites being blocked.
When you are surfing suddenly the net will stop working. then you must wait for 15 min until it starts working.
Many basic privileges in the computer are denied for example creating a folder etc. You can create it only in my docs. Then how the $*#$ do I install some software? When do I check my personal mails/wash clothes/arrange my room? Forget about any personal hobby.

I work at Wipro, and it is great. TCS sounds like a mad house if this is true. You should think about applying. to Wipro if you are talented. Of course, all organizations have some degree of problems, I think as long as we all follow the letter of what we signed onto, we are good.

Hey Wipro Sucks.. I joined wipro before some time and now my manager dailly comments about me that i am not performing. Let me know that mother fucker that i was the best performer where ever i have worked in my past.
That mother fucker even dnt knw how to interact with people how to talk with guys who are working under him…
My manager sucks. Most people leaving Wipro because of there low profile managers who becomes manager after 5 to 10 years working in the company.
If those mother fuckers are so capable why they are not joinning other companies ? why they are continuing with less pays. Because they knw they cant perform in any other organization.

TCS is just on bunch of jokers – its TOTALLY AMATEURISH and Childish environment to work – xcoz all management guys who ve spent more than years in taht company are big time losers- real winners dont stay on on TCS- its good for freshers and those seeking career line changes hats all – because the entry criteria is pretty much a piece of cake.. no seasoned pro will ever want to stay with TCS. Immature pAlghat Iyer losers- chock full of Tamil groupism- and no social beings – all stuck in the past
